In regards to Melissa's comment, (It's too long to quote it all ),

I, at 20, (and a girl!!) play mostly E rated games. In fact, the Barbie and MKA Olsen ones I listed are in my collection, lol.

I don't think people should look down on anyone for collecting anything different. However, I still think most people would raise eyebrows at a grown man playing E or EC games. *Most people*, certainly not everyone. Those of us (like Melissa's family) open-minded enough to see that people collect/like different things probably wouldn't think much of it. Perhaps give it a minute's laugh, but nothing more.

Like with dolls, I think having an "innocent" hobby is always better than having one that's too adult for your age. *I* have no problems with adults playing games made for children (although I might question a 45 year old man playing MKA Olsen games, but for different reasons), nor do I have problems with people collecting what they collect.

I agree on the age thing. People are always surprised when I tell them I normally watch Disney Channel and PBS, "Why don't you watch MTV?" Or that I collect Disney movies, and read Harry Potter, and other "childish" things. I just like "wholesome" things, and I don't see anything wrong with that. It's not hurting anyone for me to watch Disney Channel programming instead of MTV's.

Well, you do not need to be ashamed for collecting dolls, for goodness sake! I have really enjoyed collecting these pretty things myself. At times I have felt a little foolish for spending so much money on something like this, but we look at it as art. No one laughs at the people who collect art!! The well-kept dolls of twenty years ago are valuable now, and the well-kept dolls of today will be valuable twenty years from now. I have never had a woman or girl come to see my collection who hasn't smiled looking at all the pretty dolls and clothes and things, and that is what a collection is supposed to do--make people smile. <font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I can relate. Sometimes, I get a little perturbed at all of MTV's "reality" programming. Recently, I've stopped watching so much television, but when I do I try to make it worthwhile. That's why I give PBS shows props. Love you long time Arthur.

This is why I love this board!!! You all get me!!! My family started out thinking I was wierd about my dolls. But, they make me happy. DH has even started remembering the numbers of the dolls I like. My older sister laughs and says I will be like Julia Roberts' mom in Dying Young. Hee hee. That's ok. She loves me anyway!!!

P.S. You are taking time to stop and smell the flowers so to speak...except it's stop and smell the vinyl. LOL

See, now me, I would be re-evaluating my choice of doctor, not my hobby. How rude of her . . .lots of women collect dolls of all types.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Arthur's my favorite. He and I go way back, . I've been reading about him since I was six, and watching the show since it started in 1996.

Have you ever noticed how Marc Brown (the author of the Arthur series) hides his children's names in the illustrations of his books? I always get a kick out of finding them.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Yep. Not sure if he still does on the newer ones, (I have them all, I just don't take the extra time looking for them anymore ), but I used to spend time looking for them in the old ones. There used to be a blurb on the back of the book (back when they had a fan club that only cost $1 to be in, lol), that says the names are in all but one of the books .

I wrote a letter to Marc Brown when I was about 7, asking him to write Arthur chapter books (like little step into reading books). Actually happened a few years later, only they were the ones that are still out now, based on the tv episodes.

I love the cartoon. It's really quite witty, and the episodes have yet to get dry and boring 10 years later.

I started liking american girl dolls at the age of 11-and got my first doll at that age as well. It was a little too late to be "playing with dolls", and actually-going into my teen years and in high school-I never told anyone that I loved AG. When I was in middle school, my own friends would give me that "blank stare" when I told them about AG.

I am 22 now and I have no worries telling people I collect AG. I have noticed when growing up that people older than me would collect things that may seem childish to others. Disney stuff, Barbie Dolls, etc. It made me see that there are plenty of other people out there that share the same passion as we do.

Just because you collect AG dolls and someone thinks that's weird...doesn't mean you should contemplate whether you are wasting your time or not. Your doctor probably grew up too fast in her childhood and most likely considers dolls as just a childhood thing. But that's her problem. not yours.

Collect away! Cherish all your dolls and love them dearly. Who cares what other people think? Plus, if you think you are wasting your time with AG dolls. Molly would be very upset with you!

Seriously, though...there is nothing wrong with collecting AG dolls. None at all.
